This is a picture of a typical day in the busy Kudjip Hospital in Papua New Guinea. A man there named Lou says this is “the only reliable hospital in all of PNG. In March of 2009 a terrible flood destroyed the hydroelectric system the Nazarene Church had installed years ago to supply power for the hospital. Right now there’s a serious need in PNG. Electricity supplied by ‘PNG Power’ is not reliable and is very expensive. There are surges that damage equipment. Two people have died because of power outages during critical procedures. One doctor had to leave the operating room to turn on the generator when the power went out.

This picture was taken as surgeons finished a caesarean section operation by flashlight, because of a power outage. The electricity needed to run a hospital needs to be reliable and consistent. Dr. Bill McCoy is the head of Kudjip Hospital. He says, “We need to build a new dam and gate, make some major renovations and repairs to our small ‘powerhouse’, purchase and install a good back-up generator, and restore our hydroelectric system.” Some money has been raised, but $250,000 is still needed. We need to act now! Our combined contacts and networking in our spheres of influence will result in solving this grave situation.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP?

• Pray that God will meet this critical need.

• Spread the word in your sphere of influence. Could your company help?

• Give as much as possible. Make this a Compassionate Ministries emphasis in your church. December is Compassionate Ministries month. Take a special offering.

• Be willing to go. Skilled mechanics will be needed to do the repairs and installation.

• Act quickly, as lives really do depend on it.
